Wool, Synthetic Yarn
Untitled
“The architecture of the “hefkoepelgebouwen” at Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen contains cavities, holes, and cracks, conveying a sense of growth and change amidst its war-torn past. In contrast to the heavy presence of concrete and steel, I mimic the visual expression of rough textures with soft material.”

“The starting point for this project was my backpack, which has accompanied me throughout the process of the last 4 years. I bought it secondhand at the Waterlooplein market. The bags’ gradual wear and tear allowed me to reflect on the ways in which the fabric’s progression reflected some of my own experiences and impressions. The dynamic presentation of textures and tactile sensations from both fabricated and raw materials dispels the notion of a front side and a back. The encrypted archives found within the work translate pictures, drawings, and text from both public and private sources, forming a new material language.”
